These are some examples of how one may use fiber, their are deep connections between fiber arts and aspects of race, gender, spirituality and many other cultural constructs. Fiber arts has a rich history that explores communication, social justice, advocacy and meditation practices. Examples of fiber art is seen in our daily living with weaving, quilt work, knitting, crochet, felting, cross stitch. I love the utilitarian aspects of fiber and with a little resourcefulness and recycling we can transform worn out shirts into a new blanket or make cardboard into a loom. When exploring the use of fiber art in the therapeutic process I often gravitate towards ideas around connection and community.
